At the beginning of this year 2021, the LIFE+ SATEC – Strategic Approach for Tackling Environmental Crime – has been launched. It´s coordinated by the Spanish public institution TRAGSATEC, with Guardia Civil-SEPRONA as Technical Direction and it will work through different law enforcement agencies within Europe:

The LIFE+ SATEC Project is co-financed by the European Commission LIFE+ instrument and aims at reinforcing actions in the fight against environmental crime, at a strategically level, in its component of improving criminal investigation capabilities from a comprehensive perspective.
The Project will help European institutions to integrate the vision of criminal investigation in the environmental field within the environmental regulation. LIFE+ SATEC PROJECT will also contribute to a regulatory harmonization from the criminal investigation perspective, to facilitate further cross-border criminal investigations.
Moreover, the LIFE+ SATEC Project will support a formal platform, based on the already existing working group EnviCrimeNet, as a Center of Excellence and reference in the strategic approach of criminal investigations, addressed to the agents’ capacity building.
The Project will also involve the participation of third countries inside and outside Europe, around the world, to fight against criminal activities in areas such as illegal waste trafficking, wildlife trafficking, cybercrime investigations, loose of biodiversity related investigations, etc.
LIFE+ SATEC Project is supported by the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic challenge, Europol, CEPOL and operates closely with specialised networks in this field such as ENPE, IMPEL or EUFJE.
